Bulldogs aim to become NRL State Champions

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will meet the Redcliffe Dolphins this weekend at ANZ Stadium, Sunday September 30, in a battle for the National Rugby League State Championship.

This game pits the winners of the New South Wales Intrust Super Premiership and the Queensland Cup against each other.

The game was introduced in 2014 as a curtain-raiser to the NRL match on Grand Final day, with the winner crowned NRL State Champions.

This year's match will see Canterbury tackle Redcliffe, after the Bulldogs claimed an 18-12 win over the Newtown Jets and the Dolphins defeat Easts Tigers 36-22.

The Dogs finished fourth at the end of the regular season, but despite going down to the Panthers in the opening week of the finals series, Steve Georgallis' men fought their way back to claim victories over the Wyong Roos, St George Illawarra Dragons and the Jets to be crowned NSW Intrust Super Premiership champions.

Meanwhile, Redcliffe finished the regular season in first position and only needed to defeat the Burleigh Bears in week two of the finals series to advance to the Grand Final and set up a clash with the Tigers.
The Dolphins are coached by Adam Mogg and led 14-10 at the break before going on to register a 14-point victory.

The inaugural State Championship match was won by the Northern Pride who defeated the Penrith Panthers, 32-28, while last year's game saw the Panthers defeat the PNG Hunters, 42-18.
