Bulldogs Suffer First Defeat of the Season

The Bulldogs have suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 42-18 to the Broncos in wet conditions at Suncorp Stadium.

The Broncos shot out to an 12-0 lead after two quick tries. Xavier Willison found the line first before a Payne Haas offload set Adam Reynolds up under the posts.

The Bulldogs, who donned the 1935 Commemorative Jersey in homage to the Club's very first side, were put to the test when prop Josh Curran was sin binned for a high tackle in the 10th minute. The Broncos capitalised on their one-man advantage, scoring two more tries.

Deine Mariner scored in the corner off a Reynolds cross-field kick before Gehamat Shibasaki went over in the corner.

Mariner and Reynolds combined again for the Broncos with the 21-year-old winger crossing for his second of the night.

The Broncos then ran in their sixth try with Jesse Arthars going over in the left corner.

The night then even tougher for the Dogs when Sitili Tupouniua was sin binned for what was deemed to be a shoulder charge.

The Bulldogs responded early in the second half when Marcelo Montoya scored - but his night then took a turn when the was sin binned for high contact.

Despite being one man down the Dogs went in again with Toby Sexton putting a cross-field kick up for Jacob Kiraz, who out-lept the Broncos and then offloaded to tryscorer Jacob Preston.

They backed it up through Bronson Xerri, who crossed off a neat pass from Viliame Kikau.

But the Broncos ended the night with a penalty goal, followed by a late try to seal the result.
