Jersey Flegg stumble at home to Panthers

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Jersey Flegg side have fallen to the Penrith Panthers 50-4 on Saturday afternoon at Belmore Sports Ground in their rescheduled Round 2 fixture.

Penrith opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes, after winger Ethan Clarke-Wood intercepted the ball 10 metres from his own try line to sprint down town unopposed.

The visitors were in again moments later through Thomas Jenkins, after some crafty lead up work through the middle by the Penrith halves put the winger in position to touch down.

Canterbury-Bankstown left centre Eli Clark got his side back into the match, crashing over from close range down the left edge.

The men from the foot of the mountains struck a crucial blow a few minutes before halftime, with Jenkins latching on to a cut out ball to streak down the left hand touchline to increase the visitor's lead by 12-points at the main break.

Jersey Flegg Highlights: Round 2 v Panthers

The away side started the second half the way they finished the first, with Jenkins scoring a long range effort off the back of an overlap well within his half. The passage of play was soured with Bulldog's halfback Bailey Biondi-Odo being forced off the field, with what appeared to be a left hamstring injury suffered during the ensuing chase.

Penrith were back at it again when halfback Hayden Bonanno kicked a 40/20 in the following set to march his side up field. The field position setting up a barging run from Hanna El-Nachar to score under the posts.

Jenkin's day was not over, the Panther's winger beating the opposition to ball after chasing a kick into the in-goal area. The away side closed the match with a flurry, five-eighth Niwhai Puru going back-to-back to score a double late in the second half. A late try to substitute Connor Masion completing his side's 50-4 victory over the Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon.
