Pups dig deep against Rabbitohs in Jersey Flegg

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Jersey Flegg side have defeated the South Sydney Rabbitohs 18-12 on Saturday afternoon at ANZ Stadium.

Canterbury winger Tyrone Harding got the young pups off to the best possible start after opening the scoring in the second minute of the match after a brilliant catch and pass from centre Isaiah Tass.

Bulldogs fullback Declan Casey increased the margin a few minutes later after dotting down in the right corner to give the Bulldogs a 10-point lead after just nine minutes.

A strong carry from right centre Jaxson Paulo got the home side on the board after a powerful run just right of the upright. Paulo added a second try moments later to trail the Bulldogs by two-points.

The Dogs ended the first half with a 14-8 lead after Casey dived over for his second of the afternoon just before the siren.

South Sydney were unable to take advantage of possession to start the second half after camping by the Bulldogs try line in the opening stanza.

They were later rewarded for their perseverance when Paulo grabbed his hat-trick with a strong carry to slam the ball down over the tryline and have his side in touching distance of the Bulldogs.

However, the Bulldogs mainstay Jackson Topine slid over down the right flank in the 56th minute to give the visitors a six point buffer with time winding down to the match.

Topine's try was the difference in the end with the Bulldogs securing a 18-12 victory against the Rabbitohs.

Bulldogs 18 (T. Harding 2, D. Casey, J. Topine tries; Topine 1 goal) def. Rabbitohs 12 (J. Paulo 3 tries)
