Jersey Flegg go down to Raiders

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Jersey flegg team has been defeated by the Canberra Raiders, 36-16 at Belmore Sports Ground.

The Bulldogs scored the first two tries of the match to lead 12-0 after 20 minutes, but an impressive second half from the visitors which included five tries gave the Raiders their sixth win of the season.

Bulldogs fullback Declan Casey grabbed a double in the first half with Jake Averillo converting both tries, before the Raiders grabbed a try in the 29th minute through Daine Spencer. Tobias Westcott converted, and the home side led 12-6 at the break.

The second half was dominated by the Raiders who ran in five tries in 24 minutes, with the first coming in the 44th minute and the final try of the game coming in the 68th minute. Canberra halfback Westcott had a perfect day with the boot, converting all six of their tries.

The Bulldogs grabbed a consolation try in the 60th minute through winger Blake Clayton, but the Raiders proved too good to record a 36-16 win.

The loss sees the Bulldogs sit in eighth position on the ladder, while the win has the Raiders sitting in third position.

This week’s fixture will see the Bulldogs host the fourth placed Dragons at ANZ Stadium on Monday afternoon June 10 prior to the NRL match.
