1980 – Greg Brentnall scores the first SOO try
NSW and Canterbury winger Greg Brentnall had the honour of scoring State of Origin's first try, diving over in the left-hand corner of Lang Park after great lead-up work from teammates Graham Eadie and Mick Cronin as the ball went through eight pairs of hands before finding the Wagga product out wide. Brentnall went on to play three more games for NSW and 13 Tests for Australia before retiring at just 26 due to chronic injuries, but remains etched into Origin history thanks to this iconic try.
