During the week Bulldogs TV headed out to Berala Bears Junior Rugby League Club to spend time with the kids and see how this great Junior League Club is going.
Celebrating 50 years!
2014 is a milestone year for Berala Bears, with the Club clocking up half a century of Rugby League in the district.
Established in 1964, the Berala Bears have provided an organised, safe and happy environment, allowing children to learn and play our great game of Rugby League, including being the breeding ground for a number of star first grade NRL players.
A successful 2013 campaign saw six teams take part in the semis, with both the under 11 and under 12’s victorious in the Grand Final. In 2014 the Bears are expecting to field more than 20 teams from under 6’s to A-grade.
A number of established NRL first grade and representative players have donned the Bears jersey with pride, coming through the ranks including Daniel Tupou, Anthony Watmough, Samisoni Langi, Apisai Koroisau, Aidan Sezer and Jamal Idris and Terry Matterson.
Berala’s success on the field mirrors their commitment off the field, with teams donning a pink, yellow and black jersey this season to recognise the countless women who contribute enormously to the ongoing success of the Bears.
The Berala Bears are marking their 50th year with a celebration dinner on Saturday, March 15 at the Grand Royale, Granville.

Grassroots form the heart and soul of our great game. Throughout the 2014 season the Bulldogs in the Community team, headlined by Steve ‘Zap’ Turner, will head out to each of our fifteen Junior Rugby League Clubs.
During this visit Zap will have a chat to some of our youngest pups in the under 8’s division, to find out what it is they truly love about footy. We hope you enjoy it!
Our under 8’s will also be taking centre stage at Bulldogs home games, with four teams being given a once in a lifetime experience, forming the guard of honour, running out with the team, and playing an exhibition match at half time of the NRL. The teams in round 2 are St George Dragons, Milperra Colts, Berala Bears and St Chrsitopher.
