The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are pleased to announce the signing of Reni Maitua.

The 31-year-old will join the Club from the Parramatta Eels, where he has spent the past three seasons playing 53 games between 2001 and 2013.

Maitua will return to the Bulldogs, the Club where his NRL career begun 10 years ago, back in 2004. After making his debut in round one of that season, the back rower has gone on to make 161 appearances in the NRL (Bulldogs: 100, Sharks: 8 and Eels: 53)

I cant believe its been 10 years since I made my NRL debut and won a premiership so to be able to come back here and work towards repeating history is going to be great, Maitua said. Im really grateful for the opportunity and itll be great to finish off my career where it all started.

The issues this season have been well documented and I thought I might have to retire but Ive been lucky enough to get a bit of a lifeline from the Bulldogs so its great to be back.

Im looking forward to the pre-season and working with Des. Ive heard good things about him and the Club so I cant wait, itll be a great challenge for me. I cant thank the Club enough for giving me this chance.

Chief Executive Raelene Castle is happy to see Maitua return to the Club where his career began.

He has been in this game a long time and hell add some experience to our squad, Castle said.

Coach Des Hasler believes Maitua still has a lot to contribute to the game of rugby league.

Reni is an experienced player at this level and he will add a lot to our squad, Hasler said. I look forward to working with Reni.
