Students at Greenacre Public School on Thursday became the first of 70,000 students across Canterbury, Auburn, Liverpool and Bankstown to take part in a Life Education ‘Healthy Harold’ programme sponsored by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Brett Morris, who himself is a graduate of the Healthy Harold programme joined the students to launch the partnership between the Bulldogs and Life Education NSW which aims to promote healthy living to kids in the area.
5000 students will receive Life Education NSW workbooks as part of the partnership which will also see the Healthy Harold Mobile Learning Centre reaching out to kids attending Bulldogs home games.
Bulldogs Chief Executive Raelene Castle said placing a focus on health and wellness became a priority for the Club after conversations with several local service providers identified a need for significant help in this regard.
“People who are on the ground and working with kids in our area were very clear in saying that they need help in getting kids more active and encouraging kids to make better health choices,” Castle said.
“We determined that the best way the Bulldogs can help give kids in our catchment the right guidance on these issues is through a partnership with Life Education.
“Through their preventive education programmes, Life Education does an incredible job in giving children the confidence needed to make safe and healthy choices and we’re really pleased to announce that the Bulldogs have committed to support Life Education NSW in their work.”
Chief Executive of Life Education New South Wales, Kellie Sloane said it’s a delight to have the Bulldogs on board as a part of the Life Education team.
“To have a successful and highly regarded NRL club in the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on board and committed to helping us educate the youth within the local community schools is sensational,” Ms Sloane said.
