TV presenter Laura Dundovic, boxer Garth Woods and Australian Actor Luke Carroll are among the celebrities who will be slogging it out alongside the players at ANZ Stadium during Friday night’s blockbuster between the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs and the Manly Sea Eagles as part of the Club’s ongoing commitment to encourage awareness of mental health issues.
Three treadmills will be spinning non-stop throughout the game with the celebrities being joined by player partners, members and fans in a continuation of the Plebs, Pros and Personalities initiative to raise funds for Suicide Prevention Australia.
The official 24 hour run was held from 5pm Friday, 20 June through until 5pm Saturday, 21 June at Maroubra Sports Club and with the help of many, raised over $100,000 for the charity.
As well as having the participants running at the match, the Bulldogs will be donating 250 tickets and a t-shirt to all the generous people who made the event such a great success.
Bulldogs back rower Reni Maitua this year told his story relating to suicide and has been instrumental in putting together the event.
“It was such a great event that was held at Maroubra a couple of weeks ago,” Maitua said. “I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I can use my experience to help others and this event is to be the first of many.
“The stats don’t lie and suicide is one of the highest killers in men aged 15-44. This needs to be taken seriously and hopefully with events like these we can help make a difference and reduce the stigma around suicide.
“We just want people to know that ‘it’s not weak to speak’.
“The club has been great in supporting the event and Suicide Prevention Australia. It will be great to see people working as hard as we are on the field, on the treadmills at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.”
