Your Guide to the NRLW and Supporting the Bulldogs Pack!

It’s a historic week for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs as we, for the first time ever, field an NRLW and NRL squad back-to-back in an action-packed, double-header at Accor Stadium on Friday night, July 4, 2025.

As we rally behind our NRLW squad as they officially kick off our inaugural season, here’s everything you need to know from the competition structure, rule changes, how to follow along and support and what NRLW Membership entails.

Differences between NRLW and NRL

While they’re still both the same action-packed, hard-hitting, electrifying games of Rugby League, the NRLW and NRL have a number of key differences:

The Teams and Season Structure

You can expect 11 matches over as many weeks (no BYES) for the regular season.

Currently, 12 NRL teams compete in the NRLW;

  • Brisbane Broncos
  • Canberra Raiders
  • Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (NEW to the comp this year – our first year)
  • Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
  • Gold Coast Titans
  • Newcastle Knights
  • New Zealand Warriors (returning to the comp this season)
  • North Queensland Cowboys
  • Parramatta Eels
  • St George Illawarra Dragons
  • Sydney Roosters
  • Wests Tigers

Alongside the Bulldogs, the Warriors are the newest team in the competition, returning after a four-year absence to bring the NRLW to 12 teams for the very first time.

Each team plays one another once in an 11-round regular season, with all teams playing five home games, five away games and one Magic Round clash.

After Round 11, the top six teams will qualify for the NRLW Finals Series, with the NRLW Grand Final to be played alongside the NRL Grand Final on Sunday, October 5 at Accor Stadium.

While the Bulldogs will be doing everything in their power to pursue a 9th Premiership title and our first in the NRLW, here are all the Clubs that have claimed the title to date:

  • 2018, 2019 & 2020 – Brisbane Broncos
  • 2021 – Sydney Roosters
  • 2022 & 2023 – Newcastle Knights
  • 2024 – Sydney Roosters

The Bulldogs' 2025 Draw

The Club has five home games this year, with Bulldogs Members and supporters set to be treated to four action-packed double-headers alongside the NRL side, as well as one stand-alone match at our spiritual home ground of Belmore Sports Ground.

We will be on the road for five away games, but all matches will be broadcast live via 9, 9Now, Kayo and Fox Sports - so you won’t have to miss a minute of the action!

Here’s our pick for the Pack: Matches not to miss

  • ROUND 1: Kicking off on Friday, July 4, the Bulldogs commence their first-ever season at 5:40pm against the Newcastle Knights at Accor Stadium. While this match marks history for our proud Club, it’s an opportunity to enjoy an action-packed double header with the NRL clash between the Bulldogs and Brisbane Broncos to follow.
  • ROUNDS 2 & 3: In Round 2, the side heads to Campbelltown on Thursday, July 10 to take on the Wests Tigers, before returning for a double header against the Dragons at Accor Stadium in Round 3. Round 3 will proudly mark Member’s Appreciation Round with a number of exciting initiatives taking place.

If you’re not yet a Member and want to find out more about these initiatives and the loads of benefits that come with being an official member of our Pack, our friendly Membership Services team can be reached via phone at 1300 769 164 or email at members@bulldogs.com.au.

  • ROUNDS 4 & 5 (MAGIC RD): On Saturday, July 26 sees the Bulldogs face the Roosters at Allianz Stadium, before taking on the Gold Coast Titans at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle for the NRLW’s very first Magic Round.
  • ROUNDS 6 & 7: The Blue and White return home in Round 6 for an Indigenous Round double header alongside the NRL squad, as they face fellow NRLW newcomers the Warriors.

Like all Bulldogs home matches, recognising and celebrating culture will be at the forefront of this special home match before we head to far north Queensland to play the Cowboys on Sunday, August 17th for Round 7.

  • ROUND 8 - A RETURN TO BELMORE: Round 8 marks the side’s first match at our spiritual home and also the last match of 2025 at Belmore Sports Ground before we commence construction of our new Centre of Excellence. Don’t miss the opportunity to create history with us as our women’s side run out at a nostalgic Belmore for the first time ever (where our Men’s competitive journey began over 90 years ago) on Saturday, August 23 in a double header alongside the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership side.

For existing Members who wish to gain access to this match, an add-on membership starts from as little as $20*. For non-members, tickets will be made available to purchase via Ticketek shortly, or you can grab an NRLW Membership to gain access to this special match, plus all NRLW and NRL double-headers at Accor this season.

  • ROUNDS 9 & 10: The following week the Bulldogs fly to Brisbane to take on the Broncos, before their final home match of the season in yet another double header alongside the NRL squad against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
  • ROUND 11: In the final regular season round, we head to CommBank Stadium as the away side to face our biggest rivals, the Parramatta Eels, on the eve of the NRLW Finals Series.

Finals are played out over 3 weeks with a top-six finals structure.

Key Rule Differences

While maintaining the same structure of 13 on-field players and a 4-player bench, there are some key rule differences in the NRLW from the men's game:

  • Interchange: The NRLW allows up to 10 interchanges per match, compared to the NRL’s 8.
  • 35-minute halves & no six-again: The NRLW features 35-minute halves as opposed to 40-minute halves, while the six-again rule implemented in 2020 does not apply to the women’s game, with penalties only.
  • Modified 40/20: Finally, the 40/20 and 20/40 rules have been modified for the NRLW with the 40/20 and 20/50 rules, shaving down 10 metres either side.

24-Player Squads: MEET OUR PACK and get ready for Teamlist Tuesday!

Each of the 12 NRLW squads feature 24 players and 4 development players, as opposed to the NRL’s 30 players and 6 development players.

Should a player miss the year with a season-ending injury or pregnancy, a development player can be upgraded in their place.

Meanwhile on Teamlist Tuesday, a squad of 22 will be named, as opposed to the NRL’s 24. The teamlist will be released at 4:00pm weekly, so no changes here, just more news to keep across.

OUR SQUAD: The Bulldogs’ squad consists of a great mix of talented, experienced NRLW players (many who have returned to the Bulldogs system after graduating through our junior representative programs) as well as a number of up-and-coming players who earned their NRLW contracts in 2025 from exceptional seasons in the Tarsha Gale and Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership competitions.

Check out our full squad’s player profiles here and get to know the team!

OUR CAPTAINS: In June, we announced the appointment of Tayla Preston and Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa as the Club’s inaugural NRLW Captains.

Our Co-Captains are no stranger to playing under the Bulldogs badge, each returning to the Club as former Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership players who have since pursued their NRLW careers elsewhere and while the Bulldogs weren’t in the Premiership competition. Our squad is in great hands with these two at the helm - they know what it takes to be a Bulldog and embody the Bulldogs spirit and values in all that they do.

Find out more about their journeys, here.

OUR COACH: Brayden Wiliame joined the Club earlier this year on a two-year deal, parting ways with the New Zealand Warriors to take up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, where he had been working in pathways and wellbeing.

The 32-year-old has extensive experience as a player, with over 125 games to his name across the NRL and Super League, and has represented in nine Tests for the Fiji Bati.

The Pathways System

In recent years, the NRLW has aligned itself similarly to the NRL and its respective male pathways teams.

Where the NRL has a reserve grade competition in the NSW Knock-On-Effect Cup, the NRLW now has the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership (NSW) and the BMD Premiership (QLD) as the premier open-age competitions that sit underneath it. The latter runs concurrently with the NRLW season, providing depth and playing opportunities for team members not named in the 1-17 squads.

Underneath the NRLW and Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership competitions is the New South Wales’ Junior Representative grades, including the Tarsha Gale Cup (Under 19s) and Lisa Fiaola Cup (Under 17s) run concurrently between February and April each year, alongside the men’s counterpart sides the Harold Matthews Cup (Under 17s) and SG Ball Cup (Under 19s).

In Queensland, the Harvey Norman Under 19s and Harvey Norman Under 17s run concurrently with their male counterpart side in the Cyril Connell Cup (Under 16s) and Mal Meninga Cup (Under 18s).

The Bulldogs as a proud family and development Club, is extremely pleased to field sides across all NSW premier competitions, with grassroots that extend beyond a local junior league program (in the Canterbury Bankstown District Junior League District) and through all junior representative and open-age competitions to the NRLW.

This means that a clear and visible pathway to the NRLW through the Bulldogs has never been more achievable for junior female Rugby League players who dare to wear the badge and take the field in the Blue and White!
