Bulldogs v Sea Eagles: Round 3 Pregame Notes

After the disappointment of a Round 2 loss to the Broncos at Accor Stadium, the Bulldogs now hit the road and head north to re-ignite a few old rivalries against the Sea Eagles on Sunday evening.

4 Pines Park will host a clash between two sides determined to walk away with what would be a vital two points, with a win providing a real sense of achievement against one of the form teams from last year. Trent Barrett enjoys the luxury of naming a talented squad, and that ability to send a strong team onto the field each week, will do wonders for developing the continuity that the Head Coach is seeking.

There has been some real fluidity in attack having been shown, as the inside backs get to know each other’s games and the same can be said of the wider men, as they adapt to the shape and structures the coach has designed.

The Sea Eagles have lost to the Panthers and Roosters thus far; two polished sides destined to be in the finals’ race in 2022, hence the knowledge that Sunday’s trip to Brookvale will be a tough one. Yet with the passionate rivalry that exists between the two clubs, and a chance to touch base with former coach Des Hasler, the Bulldogs will be up for the clash.

Evidence of the Bulldogs’ progression was clear against Brisbane, with possession, run metres, post contact metres and tackle breaks heavily in favour of the Bulldogs and these areas will need to be repeated if the Sea Eagles are to be conquered on their home turf.

This fixture looms as a tight affair, played as part of NRL Multicultural Round, with that social dynamic very close to the heart of the Bulldogs. Marching away with the two points will be the goal, yet a desperate Sea Eagles team will make that task a difficult one.
