Flanagan leads Mounties past Dragons

Mount Pritchard have secured a 26-16 win over St George Illawarra Dragons at Stadium Australia in Round 14 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup on Monday afternoon.

Mounties opened the scoring in the third minute when Lachlan Lewis put centre Kiko Manu into open space on the left edge, to get his side 4-0 up on the scoreboard.

The home side were in again shortly later when Renouf Atoni was able to offload after a powerful run into the Dragons defence. Lewis summing up the situation with a lob pass to Watson Heleta who went over untouched to increase the score to 8-0 after 20 minutes.

Heleta broke hearts of the St George Illawarra side when his notched a double before halftime. Halfback Kyle Flanagan slotting the conversion on the stroke halftime with Mounties heading into the sheds at halftime with a 14-0 lead.

Mathew Feagai got the visitors on the board at the resumption of play in the 51st minute. Though the the black and gold fired back immediately when Heleta broke through the midfield to put Flanagan under the posts untouched.

Dragons winger Jordan Pereira shot down the left edge to give the Dragons a 20-10 sniff with 13 minutes to go.

 Midseason recruit Larson Doyle grabbed his first try of the season when he dotted down 75th minute. A second try to Pereira in the closing stages was not enough to close the gap for the Dragons.
