Vale Helen O’Connor

The Bulldogs are sad to report of the passing of Helen O’Connor who was a pioneer in the world of performance nutrition for many years.

Helen worked with a number of sporting organisations throughout her career, including the Sydney Swans, Australian Rugby League Team and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Her time with the Bulldogs between 1990 and 2015, saw her offer expert knowledge in the area of diet and nutrition, making the subject understandable and accessible at every level.

Helen was the inaugural President of Sports Dieticians Australia (SDA) and played a major role in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, as well as working with individual athletes such as World Boxing Champion, Kostya Tszyu.

In 2000, Helen was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for services to sports nutrition and later a fellowship with Sports Dietitians Australia (2005).

Bulldogs Chair Lynne Anderson praised O’Connor’s contribution to sport describing her as a ‘trailblazer for women in sport’ and someone of ‘knowledge and skills who was valued by everyone that she met”.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday January 22 @ 10.30am at the St Patrick’s Church, 136 Flora St, Sutherland
