The Jets welcome back Kyle Flanagan at halfback in a huge boost for the side after an opening round loss to the Knights. Expect them to thrive in-front of their home crowd at Henson Park.

The Mounties can take confidence from their 28-all draw against the Dragons after trailing early in the first-half with back-rower Hudson Young coming off a strong performance after crossing for two tries and working tirelessly in defence.

Soward says: Going into Round One you're excited to play but for the Mounties coming away with a draw is a bit of a weird feeling, but they had their chances and they probably surprised a few people with their performance. For the Jets, they get Kyle Flanagan back who is an NRL-quality player and it will be interesting to see how he plays without Blayke Brailey. They're at Henson Park which is a huge advantage but I like the Mounties. Mounties by 4.

The Rabbitohs opened their 2019 campaign with an 18-14 victory over the North Sydney Bears on the back of dominant performances from Billy Brittain, Dean Britt and Tom Amone.

They will rue the loss of Amone as they take on a Dragons forward-pack who boasts the likes of Jackson Ford and Mitchell Allgood. The Dragons will be desperate to record their first win of the season but losing Darren Nicholls to a fractured scapula will significantly hurt their chances.

Soward says: I like the Rabbitohs after their performance last week and Connor Tracey just looks outstanding and they have a nice hard working forward-pack. I think they'll get the job done this week against the Dragons – they have no Darren Nicholls and when you lose your halfback it's hard to bring guys in. It will be interesting to see how they go, especially Reece Robson and Jai Field. Rabbitohs by 10.

The Knights surprised plenty with an upset victory over the Jets on Friday afternoon and they have a perfect chance to cement their credentials against the Panthers.

They welcome experienced campaigner Mason Lino into the side while Tautau Moga was again named in the centres. The Panthers will take confidence from their 22-12 win over Wentworthville Magpies with Caleb Aekins continuing his blistering 2018 form with a strong showing in the No.1 jersey.

Soward says: Knights were the biggest surprise packets in Round 1, they jumped out of the gates and have some quality in their side but now they welcome Mason Lino into the side. The Panthers will roll on after they were outstanding at home on the weekend and will be interesting to see how mch better they are against the Workers. Panthers by 4.

It was a tough start for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles after their 23-4 loss to the Magpies on Saturday. Coach Steven Hales will be looking for an improved defensive performance, particularly against a Bears side who managed to cross for three first-half tries in dismal conditions at Redfern Oval.

Bears five-eighth Lachlan Lam starred with two try-assists and constantly threatened despite the loss, while Captain Nat Butcher put in a mammoth performance with 46 tackles and 237 run metres.

Soward says: I really like the looks of this Bears side, and in particular Lachlan Lam – I think training under Cooper Cronk has taken his game to the next level. I'd like to see him get more involved and I thought he sat back a bit late in the game when it was on the line. The Sea Eagles, however, they tried hard but I think they're going to take some time and I think they're going to see their lack of depth show. Bears by 10.

The Bulldogs held off a fast-finishing Warriors outfit to record a 19-14 victory away from home and will take that confidence into this Sunday's clash against hte Magpies.

Nick Meaney shone brightly in the No.1 jersey with a first-half try while Jack Cogger controlled the game nicely with a pin-point kicking game.

Wentworthville had their work cut out for them against the Panthers but have the perfect chance to bounce back into the winners circle against the Bulldogs.

Bevan French was again named on the Parramatta Eels extended bench but may take his place at fullback this Sunday.

Soward says: I don't think the Bulldogs are playing their best squad playing in the NRL at the moment – they have so many NRL-quality players in their Canterbury Cup NSW side and I'd envision Rhyse Martin, Jack Cogger and Nick Meaney being in the first-grade team. They come up against the Magpies who I've tipped to come last but I think Rip Taylor will just be looking for some consistent efforts back-to-back and just need to find some momentum. Bulldogs by 10.

It was a strong performance from the Magpies in their first game of the Canterbury Cup NSW season and may welcome Josh Reynolds into the side after he was named on the Wests Tigers extended bench.

Look for his competitive edge to prove infectious amongst the Magpies squad with a potential halves combination of Tyson Gamble and Reynolds significantly boosting their chances of back-to-back wins.

The Warriors were disappointing in their loss to the Bulldogs but expect Hayze Perham and Chanel Harris-Tavtia to spark their side with their attacking flair.

Soward says: It's a massive battle of the halves. The Warriors were disappointing last week but they have some quality players like Gerard Beale come into the side. The Magpies were very impressive last week, and Tyson Gamble starred. I think it's going to be one of those games where both sides get opportunities which they might miss but also come up with some big plays. I can't separate them so I'm tipping a draw.
