NRL fans have helped raise over $100k to support ongoing drought relief funding for farmers in need.
The NRL teamed up with broadcast partners, Channel Nine and Fox Sports during the 2018 Telstra Premiership Finals Series, to help raise funds for regional and rural communities doing it tough, having endured next to no rain for months.
Fans of the game helped raise funds through a range of initiatives, including merchandise and ticket donations, a memorabilia auction and stadium coin collections.
All up, $127k was raised and has been delivered directly to the National Farmers Federation and Rural Aid for distribution.
NRL Head of Government and Community Relations, Jaymes Boland-Rudder congratulated NRL fans and thanked both broadcast partners for their support of such a vital lifeblood within Australia.
“Our farmers provide so much to our communities and our economy and they need our help more than ever at the moment,” Mr Boland-Rudder said.
“When we announced that the NRL and broadcast partners would be raising funds throughout the Finals Series, there was no hesitation from our fans to get on board and support.
“The money that has been raised, together with money raised across Australia through a variety of initiatives is a fantastic reminder that as a country, we support one another and look after one another in times of need.”
Over $10 million has been raised by everyday Australians to support farmers since fund-raising efforts commenced in August this year.
