Former Queensland and Australian centre Mark Coyne will join the ARL Commission, replacing Chris Sarra on the board.
Boasting a lengthy background in business, Coyne - the CEO of Employees Mutual Limited - is considered a candidate to eventually take over as ARLC chairman from Peter Beattie, who is set to remain in the role until at least February, 2020.
The 51-year-old, who played 222 first-grade games for St George and St George Illawarra from 1989-99 as well as six Tests and 19 State of Origin matches for the Maroons, will join the Commission in February.
Sarra has elected to not seek reappointment.
Beattie said Coyne's experience as a player and business leader would be invaluable to the ARL.
Coyne is currently Chief Executive of EML, a personal injury claims management firm, and has more than 30 years experience in the financial services sector in strategic and operational roles.
Whilst building his business experience, Coyne achieved success at the highest level in rugby league playing for the Dragons, Queensland and Australia.
"In other words, Mark has exactly the type of skills and background that we want on the Commission," Beattie said. "He knows the game, he has a strong business background and he is a strategic thinker."
Beattie has also been endorsed as chairman for a further 12 months while Gary Weiss and Wayne Pearce will be reappointed to the Commission when their terms expire in February.
"Wayne's detailed knowledge and experience in the game is invaluable and Gary's business skills are crucial to the investment strategy being developed," Beattie said.
"The Commission is working well. Bringing Peter Vlandys and Amanda Laing onto the Commission earlier this year was the right decision and added to the already strong skills base of the existing Commissioners; Tony McGrath, Professor Megan Davis, Wayne, Gary and Chris Sarra."
The Chair is elected annually at the first ARLC meeting after the AGM in February.
Beattie, who is in his first year as ARLC chair, said recently that V'landys, Laing or a third incoming commissioner, who has now been confirmed as Coyne, were "potential future chairs" when he stands down from the role.
"With Mark Coyne joining the Commission, we will be in a great position to make the game even stronger and more successful," he said.
