Josh Bergamin to replace Josh Cleeland as five-eighth on Saturday

With Josh Cleeland ruled out of Saturday's Intrust Super Premiership clash due to injury, Josh Bergamin will be pulling on the number six jersey against the New Zealand Warriors.

Josh 'Bergs' Bergamin has been with our club since 2014, coming through the ranks after starting with the SG ball side.

The local Cabramatta junior was involved in the Intrust Super Premiership campaign in 2017, helping the team make the finals before being knocked out in the prelim-final by Wyong Roos.

Last season, Bergamin played a total of 14 games, ran 1312 metres, scored five tries, made three try assists and produced six line - breaks. Bergs also impressed with his tackle efficiency finishing on 72% at the end of the season.

He started this year being named by Dean Pay in the starting NRL squad in our second trial game against the Panthers. That day he scored two tries to help the team defeat the Panthers 24-10 in a memorable game at Belmore Sports Ground.

Bergs is looking forward to the challenge:

“Yeah it’s always good to have change. It’s a lot different to playing on the wing, at five-eighth you have more talk and more direction, leading your edge around. I'll just control my edge and help Lachie Lewis out.”

Intrust Super Premiership Captain, Rhyse Martin is confident Bergs will slot right in to the position and do a good job.

“I think Bergs has got a really good running game, I think he’ll go really well. It’s going to be hard missing Cleeland but Bergs will do the job for us."

The Bulldogs ISP squad will play the New Zealand Warriors this Saturday at 12:45pm (AEDT), with the game broadcast live on Fox League (Channel 502).
