Assistant Coach David Penna chats with bulldogs.com.au to review the second month of the pre-season leading into Christmas.

How have you found your first month at Belmore?

It’s been an exciting time so far. There are some terrific young players here and a lot of really good senior players, so it’s been good. I’m just looking forward to getting into the footy next year and I can feel it’s going to be an exciting 2017.

How have the boys performed over the second month of the pre-season?

What I have noticed is that a lot of the younger boys are so much fitter and they have put a lot more size on in my short time here so far.

What have the coaches focused on over the past month?

The main focus has been knowing and understanding the structures Dessie has put in place. We have focused on working hard on other areas, in particular defence and the types of things we want the players to achieve. We have put a big emphasis on helping the players achieve their small goals they have.

Who has impressed you?

Sammy Kasiano has really impressed. Everyone knows how big of a man he is, but I have worked with Sam before in the past and I don’t think I have seen him as fit and as strong as he has ever been. Josh Jackson, Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye have stood out. The senior boys really lead the way here and they have been very impressive.
