Brett Morris catches up with bulldogs.com.au to discuss the pre-season, his injuries and who has impressed over the summer.
How have you found the pre-season?
It’s been quite tough. As you get older it gets harder, but it’s been enjoyable. It’s the first time in a while that I have actually been on the field before Christmas. Everything is going a lot better than it was the last couple of years. For me it’s just been about getting better every session.
Who are the injuries?
The knees are feeling really good at the moment. I still have to do a fair amount of rehab to make sure I don’t have those issues occur again, but the staff here, are really good at what they do through their programs and maintenance with me.
What’s been the focus over the summer?
Fitness has been a real focus. That’s one area where I think we fell away at over the back end of the year. Dessie has got us working hard and there are definitely some benefits from that. There are some boys looking really fit at the moment and hopefully over the Christmas break they can enjoy themselves, but also do a little bit of training and come in good shape to be ready to do it all again in the new year.
Who has impressed you over the summer?
Marcelo Montoya. He is a young winger and he reminds me a lot of myself when I was coming into grade. He rips in, he’s not afraid to ask questions and he’s got a lot of respect for the older guys. There are also a couple of guys who have come up from the under 20’s who are giving it a red hot crack as well.
Are you looking forward to Christmas?
I certainly am. It’s one of my favourite times of the year.
