Will Hopoate arrived at the Bulldogs looking to cement his spot in the centres, but with Brett Morris sidelined for up to four months, the Origin representative will wear the number one jersey.

“I signed here thinking I was going to play centre,” Hopoate said.

“It’s unfortunate for B Moz (Brett Morris), but hopefully he recovers well because any team with him in, the side is better.”

Hopoate began his career for the Bulldogs against the Sea eagles with an impressive display and for the 23 year old, playing at the back is a position he enjoys.

“I loved it. I love playing at fullback and I love playing rugby league.

“To play in the number one jersey was a big thrill and I’m grateful that I will have the opportunity this week as well.”

His combination with the halves and hooker will be crucial to the Bulldogs performance and with regular number nine Michael Lichaa facing the prospect of being sidelined for a period of time, Hopoate believes nothing will be lost with the addition of Craig Garvey.

“Garvs (Craig Garvey) has been training well over the pre-season.

“I have no doubt he will be a great addition to our side and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him.”
