The Broncos are looking to bounce back against the Bulldogs on Friday night after their lacklustre 30-point loss to the Sea Eagles.
Their task won't be an easy one with the Bulldogs showing plenty of bite in their see-sawing 38-28 loss against the Roosters in Round 21 and Brisbane's forwards realise they must improve against the monstrous Bulldogs pack.
Despite enjoying a breakthrough season as a result of increased playing time, Brisbane prop Jarrod Wallace realises the competition leaders must lift that extra gear when they face the eighth-placed Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium.
"The Bulldogs are a great side – they're big, strong and have got some great halves there – so we've just got to go out and play our normal game and get back into our good defence," Wallace said.
"They had a great game against the Roosters and I think they were a bit unlucky not to win. They'll come up here firing and we've got to go out and be better than we were last week and try and do our best against them."
Canterbury's pack ran for 894 metres against the Roosters with captain James Graham (174 metres), Tim Browne (140 metres) and David Klemmer (135 metres) making plenty of territory.
Aided by a phenomenal 238 metres from Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, the Roosters' forwards could only manage one extra metre than the Bulldogs despite having 55 percent of possession.
Their effort was even more impressive considering back-rower Danny Fualalo never took the field at Allianz Stadium.
In contrast, Brisbane's forwards ran for a disappointing 696 metres against Manly's pack (862 metres) with Corey Parker (169 metres) and Sam Thaiday (119 metres) the only standouts.
Starting in place of Adam Blair and without the injured Josh McGuire, Wallace played 44 minutes in Gosford for a return of 77 metres, five metres down on his season average.
The Broncos were lethargic from the opening whistle against the Sea Eagles and Wallace knows they can't afford a repeat on Friday night.
"We've got to go out with more intensity and more enthusiasm than we did last week. Our go-forward has got to be better and our defence has got to be better," he said.
"We need to come back this week and have a real dig against them. We've got to start going forward again and do our job to try and get some metres and lay that platform.
"We didn’t go out and lay that platform [against Manly] and that was disappointing."
Another Bronco looking to bounce back from Saturday's disappointing 44-14 loss is five-eighth Anthony Milford, who made four errors against the Sea Eagles.
Manly's line speed trouble Brisbane's halves with Milford and Ben Hunt failing to exert the same level of dominance they had over the course of the club's recent eight-match unbeaten run.
"You can't give a good side like Manly so many opportunities," Milford said.
"They capitalised on every mistake we made and we couldn’t come back from that.
"The Bulldogs will try to get their bigger men to run at the smaller blokes and I'm expecting a lot of traffic to be sent myself and Ben's way
"If we cut out our mistakes and errors I think we give ourselves a good chance to win the [Bulldogs] game."
