Circle Waitangi Weekend on your calendar for the Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines next year!

The NRL, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and Duco Events have today confirmed The Greatest Weekend of Rugby League will be staged on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February 2016 at Eden Park, Auckland.

The record breaking event will once again host all 16 NRL clubs with star players contractually guaranteed to play in a tournament which carries NZ$2.6 million in prize money.

Melbourne Storm sensation Billy Slater has already announced he is targeting the Nines for his comeback in 2016.

"The Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines continues to attract some of the greatest names in rugby league, and the event lends great energy to the city," says Mayor Len Brown.

"The Nines is a great home-grown event with an unrivalled atmosphere for both die-hard league fans and newcomers to league who want a great Waitangi weekend. The Nines continues to add to Auckland's reputation as a major event city, and brings significant new money into the local economy."

Promoter Duco Events has underlined its commitment to delivering a world class event in which spectators leave with enduring memories.

"We have been listening to the fans and we are determined to deliver what they want in 2016," says director David Higgins.

"The key thing they've asked for is to see the stars warming up in front of them while the games are on, just like they did in 2014 so we’re bringing it back.

"We also want to enhance the family friendly atmosphere so in most categories we are going to let children in half price.

"Early bird fans will also be able to buy tickets from just $69 to attend the two day event."

Those people who want the first pick of the best seats at Eden Park are advised to join the waiting list before tickets go on-sale to the general public on August 20.

"With big name stars coming and great value for money tickets we are determined this will be the best Nines tournament yet," says Mr Higgins.
