The Bulldogs Holden Cup side have tonight put in a great performance to win 23-16 against the Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

It was four tries to three in the 80 minutes of play.

Coach Andy Patmore made just the one change to his starting line-up with Adam Elliot coming into the starting side and David Minute moving back on to the interchange bench.

The Bulldogs had the better of the start but it was the Roosters who scored the first points of the afternoon in the 15th minute. Off the back of a break from fullback Nene MacDonald, the Roosters had the home side on the back foot with centre Brendan Elliot reaping the rewards and going over to score in the north-west corner. He couldnt convert his own try with the Roosters out to a 4-nil lead.

Eight minutes later the Bulldogs opened their account through lock forward Jack Creighton. A penalty put the Bulldogs in good field position and it was Creighton who received an inside ball and simply had too much strength for the men in the middle and he went over under the uprights. Fullback Patrick Templeman converted to put the young pups in front 6-4.

Four minutes before the break David Minute crossed on the left edge to put the Bulldogs in front. Templeman couldnt convert the try and the home side went to the break leading 10-4.

The Roosters opened the scoring in the second half after nine minutes. It was prop forward Jokatama Dokonivalu who, similarly to the Creighton try, pushed through the centre and had too much strength for the defenders standing in his way. Elliot converted to level the scores at 10-all.

The next period saw each score a try each with the score again level at 16 a-piece. The Bulldogs try scored by Adam Elliot and the Roosters through backrower Jack Siejka.

In the 71st minute the Bulldogs broke the deadlock through five-eighth Jaline Graham. Some great footwork was shown by the halfback and he snuck through to score. Templeman converted to put the lead out to 22-16.

Four minutes later Templeman basically confirmed victory when he slotted over

a field goal from 25m out to put the lead out beyond a converted try, 23-16.

The Roosters worked hard to try and open up the Bulldogs defence but the young pups held strong and took the much needed two points away before the bye.
