I must admit straight up that I dont watch a lot of footy these days but I always enjoy watching the Bulldogs in action because of the many friends I made and still have from the days I had there at the Club.
Overall I think the guys are doing a good job. Obviously they havent necessarily got the results that we all would have liked but I think we should all be looking at the personal development of some of our guys. I know its a team sport but there are some great players running around in the blue and white this year.
Im excited about what Ive seen from young David Klemmer. He is still young and raw but even seeing him on the TV you can tell he is a massive guy and his development has come on in leaps and bounds. The pre-season as part of the full-time squad has done him the world of good and that extra training and experience will help him continue to grow. This game is about opportunities and he is one man that is taking that, with James Graham and Sam Kasiano out at the moment these younger blokes are stepping up and its great to see.
Im also a big fan of both Josh Jackson and Dale Finucane. With the retirement of Corey Payne and the early season injury to Franky Pritchard these blokes are in there doing the hard work and just quietly going about their business. I remember these two guys coming through the development process when I was at the club and they were always hard workers who were always willing to have a go. I assume that has continued over time because I can see from their performances that they have put in the hard work off the field and are now very consistent performers on the field.
My other favourite is Josh Reynolds. There is definitely no second year syndrome with this bloke. He is the ultimate competitor and each and every week he is out there to win and do his best for the team, its great to see.
My old favourite though is Captain Michael Ennis. I spoke to him a few weeks back and he mentioned how it had been his first full pre-season in years and we all know what experience he brings to the side but I can see a little bit more of a spring in his step which shows he is a bit fresher.
I have to also admit that I dont really miss playing footy that much these days. It was a big part of my life and I had a great journey, dont get me wrong, I wouldnt change a thing but Im in a really happy period of my life at the moment and its great. Im up in Newcastle, my two kids are at school and my wife has opened up a beauty salon which is great for her. Im in the construction line of work and am over on Kooragang Island, there are a great bunch of blokes here and all in all everything is going well.
