In 2007, Lafai played for the Western Suburbs Magpies' Harold Matthews team before being signed by the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
He played for the Rabbitohs' SG Ball team and also played for the Campbelltown Eagles in the Bundaberg Red Cup.
Tim Joined the Canterbury-Bansktown Bulldogs in 2010 on a one year contract and played in the Toyota cup side throughout 2010 and 2011 scoring 17 tries in 32 games. Lafai was Nicknamed Turning Point after turning the Bulldogs NYC teams from a one from six win to loss ratio to win 17 of the next 20 matches.
After losing Josh Morris to injury in the lead up to Round 2 of the 2011 season Tim was called up to the NRL side against old club the South Sydney Rabbitohs and scored his first try on debut.
Lafai was named on the bench in the 2011 Toyota Cup Team of the Year.

Tim will be back and fighting hard for a permanent spot in the Bulldogs centres in 2014.
