The Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs Intrust Super Premiership team has gone down to the Wyong Roos 34-26.

The scores were locked at 26 all after the 80 minutes and the match was sent to extra time.

Two tries from the Wyong Roos in the second half of extra time gave the minor premiers a 34-26 win.

Wyong were first to score when half Mitch Cornish took the ball to the line to find hard running Lindsay Collins who crashed over next to the post. Paul Momirovski converted and the minor premiers led 6 nil.

Three minutes later and the Roos were in again through fullback Luke Sharpe. The speedy number one collected the ball out the back of a block play and beat two Bulldogs defenders to score out wide. Momirovski missed the conversion and Wyong led 10-0.

The minor premiers had all the momentum and were attacking the Bulldogs line before skipper Tyrone Phillips came to the rescue when he collected an intercept and ran 90 metres down field to score in the corner. Rhyse Martin’s conversion hit the upright and was waved away. Wyong led 10-4 after twenty minutes.

Wyong hit back five minutes later to grab their try of the afternoon when replacement forward Chris Smith collected a Mitch Cornish grubber kick to score under the post. Momirovski added the extras and the Roos led 16-4.

A seven tackle set following a Cornish kick that was too long and our first penalty of the game put us in good field position to score points. Well inside the Roos half and on the last tackle, fullback Brad Abbey kicks for his winger Phillips who collects the ball and offloads to Reimis Smith. Smith is able to beat two defenders and put the Bulldogs skipper over in the 34th minute to grab his second try of the afternoon. Martin’s conversion is waved away and Wyong led 16-8.

Four minutes later the Bulldogs were in again after a Tom Carr break down the western touch line put the Dogs in good field position. A penalty followed before Craig Garvey went down the short side and found back rower Rhyse Martin to score under the post. Martin converted his own try and the Bulldogs went into half time trailing by two. Wyong led 16-14.

A dream start for the Bulldogs in the second half when an error from Wyong in the opening set gifted the Dogs great field position. Cleeeland made the most of the opportunity when he kicked for himself on the last tackle to score under the post. Martin converted and we led 20-16.

A penalty from the Bulldogs on the fifth tackle and a repeat set gave Wyong great field position to score their fourth try of the match. Back rower Justin Toomey-White collected a Jayden Nikorima offload to plant the ball out wide. The kick was waved away and the scores were locked at 20 all.

A try from Brock Gray in the 57th minute and a conversion from Momirovski gave Wyong a 26-20 lead.

With just under 15 minutes to go, the Bulldogs took their chance following a penalty that put them inside the Wyong Roos half. Attacking the Roos line, Zac Woolford darted out of dummy half to throw a short ball to Renouf To’Omaga to crash over the try line. Martin converted to lock the game up at 26 all.

Both sides had their chances in the final ten minutes, but the scores could not be broken at the end of regular time and the game was sent to extra-time.
