Fullback Will Hopoate has declared himself available for Sunday football this season, reversing last year’s decision to stand down for religious reasons.
The 24-year old has agreed to a request from the club to play on Sundays, ahead of three Sunday games in the next eight weeks and a busy State of Origin schedule.
“Will Hopoate has decided off the back of the request of the Bulldogs’ Board and management to play on Sunday’s for the rest of the year. We think it’s important that Will plays and we will continue to support him with his faith. He is supportive of doing the right thing by his employer,” said Chief Executive Raelene Castle.
Hopoate, confirmed to his team mates this morning that he would be playing in Sunday’s blockbuster against the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.
“I appreciate everything the club and Raelene has done for me. They allowed me to not play over the course of last year, but they (the club) came to a business decision, and at the end of the day rugby league is a business. I understand that and I totally understand where the club is coming from,” said Hopoate.
The club sees Hopoate as an important part of the side and despite missing six games due to a facial injury earlier in the year, the former New South Wales representative made a stunning return in Round nine with over 300 running metres.
“I’m very grateful that the club sees me as part of their campaign. With fullback being a key position and Des wanting me there, I take that as a compliment,” added Hopoate.
The 24-year old will also be available for the club’s matches against the Panthers in round 13 and the round 18 fixture against the Knights at Belmore Sports Ground.
Nothing beats Sunday arvo footy and it's bound to be a cracker when the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs face the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.
There'll be no love lost between the cross-city rivals with both teams eager to secure the two points and secure bragging rights.
