B Moz fronts the Media

Brett Morris has spoken with the media about the team's form, Moses Mbye, player contracts and his role in the fullback position.

Does it feel like the team has turned the corner?

It’s nice to be winning games of football at this time of the year, but we know we can get better. You can’t rely on past results because this competition is very close and any one on their day can beat you. The Manly game gave us the kick that we needed. It was embarrassing for the players and the coaching staff. As a result we have turned things around and we are starting to play some good footy.

Has the Des contract situation had anything to do with the results?

As a player you try not to notice those things. You try and keep your head out of the media and the papers because at the end of the day, the Coach isn’t the one going out there on the field, it’s the players. We have to get the results and they (Coaches) give you the game plans. I don’t think the outside noise made too much of an impact on the playing group. We know that we need to win games of footy, it’s a professional sport and that’s our job.

Do you think Moses will shift to a new position?

It’s up to the Coaching staff and what they see best for the team. A lot of the players will put their hand up and happily change position if they have to because if it’s the best thing for the team, that’s what you will do.

How do you feel about moving back into the fullback position?

If that’s what’s best for the team at the moment, then I’m happy to put my hand up and play there. It’s a position I have played a lot in and I’m comfortable playing there. It hasn’t been a distraction and it hasn’t been hard for me to change roles.

Is there any certainty around players and contracts now?

It’s a business these days. You sign a contract in good faith that you will see out that contract, but we know in some instances that doesn’t occur. As a player, the biggest thing you have to do is keep your head out of all of it and worry about your job and your role within the game.
