Adam Elliott has been a real find for the Bulldogs in 2017, and was rewarded with his first start in last weekend’s 24-9, Easter Friday win over the Rabbitohs.
The 22-year old was elevated to the starting thirteen after an injury to star forward David Klemmer forced a re-shuffle to the Bulldogs line-up.
The Tathra Sea Eagles junior performed strongly and despite moving back to the interchange bench this week, Elliott knows he will be called upon again to fill the role.
“I’m loving what I’m doing. I got my first starting spot last weekend which was a goal of mine leading into the season. We have State of Origin coming up and no doubt we will have some players chosen in that, so I’m going to have to step up. You want to perform whether you’re coming off the bench or not, but it was good to get a taste of it on the weekend. I’m loving every moment of it so far,” added Elliott.
Klemmer will be a welcome addition to a Bulldogs side looking to make it four wins in a row against the Wests Tigers this weekend.
“The week before he got injured, he ran for 290m and that’s just the player he is. He’s always going to put his hand up and just get through a mountain of work,” Elliott said.
After a slow start to the season, the Bulldogs have climbed into the top eight off the back of three straight victories, and Elliott believes the recent form of the side will have them in good shape later in the year.
“We have definitely got a bit of momentum. Three wins on the trot is really good and it’s great for building the culture within the team that we will need at the back end of the season, said Elliott.
