Brett Morris will play his NRL 200th- game this weekend when he runs out onto Lottoland on Saturday for the Canterbury- Bankstown Bulldogs.
His career began in Round Nine of the 2006 season when he played his first NRL game for the St George Illawarra Dragons and after 169 games for the joint venture, including a premiership, the now 30-year old then made the move to Belmore in 2015 to reunite with his brother Josh.
Saturday will mark a special occasion for the Morris family, as it will be the first time a father and two sons have all achieved the 200-game milestone, something his twin brother and centre partner Josh has already done (he sits on 222 NRL games), while their famous father Steve also chalked up 247 first grade games for the Dragons and Roosters:
“It’s a pretty special achievement. Growing up, all I ever wanted to do was play rugby league and to get to 200 games is a big achievement. It’s a milestone I’m very proud of and I’m looking forward to getting out there on the weekend”, said Morris. “It’s special with the old boy (Steve Morris) playing rugby league as well. These milestones are something we’ll look back on at the end of our careers and be very proud of them. To do it as a family, is pretty unique.”
Following Josh’s 200th game last year against the South Sydney Rabbitohs where the centre scored two tries in the Bulldogs massive win on Good Friday, the winger is hoping he can match his brother on Saturday afternoon:
“It was a special day for Josh last year when he played his 200th. He had a good game and hopefully I can replicate that.
“He is nowhere near me on the try scoring list and he knows that! It’s a bit of sibling rivalry, it’s something that we’ve always had growing up and it’s always been quite friendly. It has usually brought out the best in us, which is good,” added Morris.
While it may be a special day for Morris, making it back to back wins for the Bulldogs will be his focus:
“We need to win games of football and that’s why we’re here. We had a good win on the weekend, but it doesn’t mean anything if we can’t back it up. For us it’s about trying to execute the way that we did on the weekend when we get our opportunities and to score points and back our defence.”
Brett and Josh Morris will be the second pair of twins to both reach the 200- game milestone, following Queensland twins Kerrod and Kevin Walters.
The Bulldogs take on Manly at 4-30pm this Saturday at Lottoland.
