David Klemmer catches up with bulldogs.com.au to discuss his performances in the four nations, pre-season and what he expects from himself in 2017.

How have the first few weeks been since you have returned?

It’s a matter of just getting the k’s back into the legs and it catching up to the boys who have been a part of the pre-season since the beginning. The last two weeks have been pretty hard.

How was your break with the family following the four nations?

It was good to get away with the family and spend Christmas with them, especially being on tour for so long. Des did give us rep players a few extra weeks off as well.

What did you take away from your excellent four nations campaign?

I took a lot of confidence away from the tour. I want to continue to build on the player I am trying to be and take it into the 2017 season.

What’s the focus for you over the next month?

It’s about getting back on to the field, getting back into shape and getting back into the contact, for a big year ahead. I’m looking forward to playing with some of the young kids, because we have a good crop of rookies in our squad this year.

You do you feel like you need to take your game to another level?

I definitely feel like I need to go to another level, because when you set high standards, you want to keep playing at the elite level. If you want to be the best, that’s what you need to do. You need to keep competing at the high level and you have always got to be hungry. It’s an area I need to keep focusing on.

What do you make of the rookies and the new recruits?

There are a lot of new faces, some rookies and new recruits which is always good to see. I love meeting new people and the boys have been training good. Some of these kids have impressed and hopefully we will see them get an opportunity throughout the year.
