New recruit Tom Carr catches up with bulldogs.com.au to discuss his move to the Bulldogs, the pre-season and his desire to play in the Auckland Nines.

How have you found the pre-season?

It’s been pretty tough and we have done a lot of indoor cardio, which I haven’t really done before. It’s been long and the days have been hot, but getting condition to the training and to be back from the Christmas break is good.

Why did you choose the Bulldogs?

It’s closer to home and I know some of the boys from playing against them in the lower grades. I knew it was a good club and I know Des is a Coach that I can learn from. I was excited to get here and have a good bunch of guys around me.

As an outside back, what have you focused on over the summer?

I have focused on my defence work and I have had the luxury of watching two of the best outside backs in Josh and Brett Morris to learn from. I have been watching what they do in defence, in particular the decision making they make. My attack will become more of a focus once we start playing footy.

What has Des expected from you?

He has wanted me to put some more weight on, but also stressed the importance of my role as a winger in defence.

Are you keen to play in the Auckland Nines?

I would love to play in the nines. When it first came in, I was a young teenager and loved watching the two day event. I would love to be a part of, especially with these boys at the Bulldogs.
