Bulldogs legend Hazem El Masri was honoured by Belmore Boys High this week with the school naming their gymnasium after the former student and Bulldogs player.

The visit to the school was all about continuing the club’s “Kitting Up’ program that has been established in partnership with Canterbury Clothing Company to increase participation numbers and have junior players within schools wear their jersey with pride by ‘kitting up’ 15 local schools across the Auburn, Bankstown, Canterbury and Liverpool areas.

“It’s very honourable to have the gym named after me,” El Masri said.

“It was a surprise for me, but it’s good to give back to the school and it’s an honour I’m really happy about.”

El Masri played 317 NRL games for the Bulldogs and to have grown up in the local area, being schooled in the local area, giving back to the community is beneficial for the club legend.

“I received a lot when I came to Australia and in particular, this school,” El Masri added.

“It’s about giving back to the wider community, the kids and sharing my experiences with them.”

Hazem El Mari continues to be honour his duties as a community ambassador with the Bulldogs, read more about our community program here.
