Assistant Coach Jim Dymock chats with bulldogs.com.au to review the opening four weeks of the pre-season.

How has the coaching staff found the application from the players?

It’s been good. There are a few new players in the squad who are adapting to the volume of training and let’s they don’t break down before Christmas.

What’s been the focus over the first month?

The focus has been getting a lot of running under their legs, get them fit through their Vo2s and working on some of our plays and structure. The players are handling the load well and we will get our full complement of players back after Christmas.

What have you liked about the young players and new faces?

I have loved the enthusiasm. Youth brings enthusiasm and for some of these players who are doing their first full time pre-season, they’re always willing to learn. If you tell them to do something, they will do it.

Who has impressed you?

Will Hopoate. He has come back bigger, stronger and faster. He has really applied himself well and some of the new signings in Brenko Lee and Rhyse Martin have done really well.

What will the next month’s focus be?

It’s about getting through the next phase without any injuries, because it has been a very intense summer so far with a lot of running.
