After migrating from Sierra Leone in West Africa and with his parents and brother three years ago, Desmond is thriving in his new home in Western Sydney and is the latest recipient of the Brydens Lawyers Community Membership program.

Desmond has spent the last three years moving around suburbs of inner West Sydney and is now living with his Brother.

The Bulldogs community team first met Desmond at a local multicultural festival where Moses Mbye was getting out into the community to meet some of the newly migrated families and to introduce them to the Bulldogs.

Since then Desmond has looked up to Mbye, whos' father immigrated to Australia from Gambia.

The Bulldogs reached out to Desmond to be a part of the new Brydens Community Membership program that was launched in 2016 to provide complementary family memberships for disadvantaged and newly arrived migrant families in the Canterbury-Bankstown area.

Since leaving school Desmond has followed his dream of working in interior design and has been studying at TAFE to try progress onto a university Bachelors Degree.

Desmond knew some of the other students in his class were big bulldogs fans and he invited them along to come see the Bulldogs play against the Roosters in round 11.

“I've come to realise because of the membership, I have made new friends. We really enjoyed ourselves and now have a new team to follow,”

“Since moving to Australia I have longed to be a part of a bigger community and meet new people, the membership has allowed me to come to games and meet other bulldogs members.,”

"The Brydens Lawyers membership was something I didn’t really expect will have an immediate impact on me.” Desmond told bulldogs.com.au

To Bulldogs Chief Executive Raelene Castle, Desmond’s story encapsulates exactly what rugby league and Bulldogs are about.

“Football clubs have a tremendous ability to bring people together, to make them feel part of a community and to create a sense of belonging,” said Bulldogs Chief Executive Raelene Castle.
