Ruebenn Rennie catches up with bulldogs.com.au to discuss his selection in the Auckland Nines squad this weekend.

Rennie has been rewarded with a spot in the nine a side format thanks largely to a great pre-season.

“All the work in the pre-season is paying off,” Rennie said.

“Getting the recognition to represent the club is a big honour and I can’t wait for the weekend.

The Bulldogs 18 man squad features plenty of youngsters and new faces, but while it is a bit of fun the tournament, it’s also a great opportunity for the younger members in the squad to showcase their skills.

“It’s good to have a few of the young boys, like Brad and Reimis in the squad as well.

“It’s a good opportunity for all of us.”

The 2016 pre-season has been hot, tough and testing at times, but it lays the platform for the season ahead and for the talented outside back being able to learn off the likes of Josh Morris and Will Hopoate has been a bonus.

“I’ve gained a lot.

“Working with some of the other boys like J Moz and Hoppa has really helped me.

Rennie is one of a handful of Kiwi players in our squad that will be heading back to see friends and family as the Bulldogs 2016 campaign gets under way this weekend with the fast and explosive Auckland Nines.
