The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are calling on Members and fans to play a part in eliminating violence against women and children by joining the entire first grade team for the White Ribbon Walk through the streets of Lakemba this Wednesday, 25 November.

Members and fans are being asked by coach Des Hasler to walk alongside their favourite players and show their solidarity for a campaign that is critical to the safety of many women and children in the Canterbury-Bankstown district.

“Nearly five women are victims of domestic assault every day in the Canterbury Bankstown area and as a Club we are working very hard with White Ribbon Australia to reduce this statistic,” Hasler said.

“On Wednesday night our first grade squad will walk the streets in Lakemba to raise awareness about this issue and we’d love our fans to replicate the support we get on game days by turning up and supporting the campaign.

“Bulldogs fans have a great sense of community and a history of supporting important causes.

“Domestic violence is one of the most pressing issues in our district at the moment and we’d really love to see a strong Bulldogs presence on Wednesday.”

The walk departs at 6pm from corner of Gillies and Quiqq Streets, Lakemba, finishing at Parry Park.

In addition to the walk in Lakemba, members of The Kennel will join Bulldogs staff for the  Bankstown Tug O War (Men Pulling Their Weight) and there’ll also be Bulldogs representation at Liverpool’s White Ribbon March and Gala Day at Liverpool PCYC (The Hub, Woodward Rd, Miller).

The Bulldog Belmore will donate 10% of Wednesday’s coffee sales  to White Ribbon Australia and White Ribbons will be available to purchase at the store.

Involvement in Wednesday’s activities is part of the Bulldogs three year partnership with White Ribbon Australia.

Since the partnership began 12 months ago the Club has driven extensive awareness programmes and fundraising initiatives on match days and has provided funding for five schools in the Canterbury-Bankstown district to participate in a programme that aims to change behaviours that lead to violence.

The Bulldogs are also working with local services across Auburn, Liverpool, Bankstown and Canterbury to deliver violence prevention programmes.
