The Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs are pleased to today announce a partnership with Canterbury City Council that will trial using the Bulldogs Centre of Excellence as an after school drop in centre for youth in the area.

The ‘Drop in @ the Doggies’ programme will run from 3:00pm to 5:00pm every Thursday from 22 October until 17 December and is open to young people aged 12-20 years. The drop in will have a social and recreational focus, with young people being offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including bootcamp, boxing, healthy cooking and table tennis.

In addition to the activities, young people will have access to a variety of services, based on their individual needs. Young people will be able to seek referrals to counselling, case management, family support, health promotion, mental health, sexual health and legal services.

‘Drop in @ the Doggies,’ will be delivered in partnership with Canterbury Bankstown Youth Service, Youthblock Youth Health Service and Barnardos Australia.

The partnership was inspired by Bulldogs in the Community discussions with community groups which identified social inclusion – particularly for disengaged youth – as a pressing issue for the area.

In coming months Bulldogs in the Community will also be increasing the intensity of its work in violence prevention and health and wellness which were identified as other areas of concerns by key community groups.

“The Bulldogs Centre of Excellence is an incredible resource right in the heart of our community and we’re excited about making our facilities available to help improve the opportunities for youth in the area,” said Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle.

“Drop in @ the Doggies allows us to develop stronger links with our community and we’re excited about working with Canterbury Council to deliver an important programme for young people.”
