'The Godfather' of New South Wales Rugby League, Steve 'Turvey' Mortimer will forever be known as the first captain to wrestle State of Origin dominance from the grasp of the Queenslanders.

A tenacious and fiercely competitive playmaker, Mortimer played 272 games for the Bulldogs, nine Origin matches for his state, eight Tests for Australia and achieved so much in an illustrious career.

Here the man they call Turvey speaks exclusively to former teammate Steve 'Blocker' Roach on the highs, lows and everything in between on his life in rugby league.

You can catch Turn Back Time, profiling NSWRL's greatest Origin players, each Thursday from 6pm exclusively on NSWRL.com.au.
