The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are embracing this week’s Women In League round as an opportunity to encourage more women to become involved with the club and to recognise the support of those who already are.
An extensive array of initiatives are planned with highlights including a leadership forum with Chief Executive Raelene Castle and the announcement of the Karen Folkes Medal Winner for the woman who is making the most outstanding contribution to Rugby League in the Canterbury-Bankstown district.
Castle said it’s an important week for the club.
“We are embracing the Women In League round as a significant opportunity to showcase our club and our game to women. We’ve scheduled a range of activities to highlight some of the inspiring women already involved and to encourage others to come and join in the fun,” Castle said.
“I’ve met so many wonderful women and had so many great experiences during a lifetime of supporting Rugby League and I’m really passionate about introducing our game to as many women as possible.
“Whether you’re young, single, a mother or grandmother there’s a terrific sense of solidarity and community that comes with being a part of the Bulldogs and that will be at the forefront of our celebrations during Friday night’s game against the Roosters.
“This week is also about letting the women already involved in our club know how much we appreciate them, particularly the volunteers. Rugby League wouldn’t exist without the work of women in our junior league and we’re using this Women In League round to thank them for their efforts.”
This week will see:
· Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle host a free forum on leadership at Canterbury Leagues Club for any interested Members on Thursday 14 May
· The Bulldogs host the finalists for and announce the winner of the Karen Folkes Medal at Friday night’s game. The award goes to a woman who has made the most outstanding contribution to Rugby League in the Canterbury Bankstown district with the winner to receive return airfares, accommodation and hospitality for the Bulldogs game against the Broncos in Brisbane.
· Girls from the Canterbury Bankstown junior league leading the NRL teams on to the ground
· The Greenacre open womens team showcasing their skills against Berala during half time of the main game
· The Bulldogs showing their appreciation for the work of female volunteers from the Canterbury Bankstown Junior League by inviting them to join in a lap of honour during Friday night’s game
· Females in the crowd selected at random to enjoy superior seating and hospitality in the exclusive Telstra Connected lounge
· Four women invited to enjoy hospitality in the Kia Seats on the Sideline
· Junior League players inviting their mothers to attend the game for free
