Home grown Bulldog Josh Reynolds paid a visit to his Junior League Club – St George Dragons to lend a hand and spend time with the under 11’s in the lead up to this weekend’s inaugural Junior League Appreciation Round.
Since its humble beginnings in 1921, the Bulldogs district has excelled in rugby league and this year can proudly say more than 4,000 registered players take the field each weekend, across 240 teams, from 15 Junior League Clubs.
A Belmore local, Josh progressed through the grades at St George Dragons, even starring in the under 6’s with fellow Bulldog Chase Stanley. Josh is all about giving back to the community and was a popular visitor at Tuesday’s training session.
To launch his limited edition ‘Reynolds’ t-shirt, Josh proudly presented each team member with their very own keepsake. With a dozen Reynolds’ running around, Josh took the team through various passing and defence drills.
Laughter’s were a plenty and the kids were stoked to have Josh as a stand in team mate for the evening.
This week’s clash with the Cowboys will be dedicated to the players, officials and most importantly the volunteers who dedicate their time to keep Rugby League prospering at footy fields in our district week in, and week out. A special relay will take place at half time of the NYC with more than 60 junior players representing their Club.
2014 has highlighted our districts under 8’s age group, with clubs present at every home game this season. On Saturday St Johns Eagles will run on with the Bulldogs and St Christopher’s will form the guard of honour. At half time of the NRL the crowd will be treated to an exhibition match with St George Dragons taking on the Bankstown Bulls.
Steve ‘Zap’ Turner has also visited each junior club this season with Bulldogs TV to film ‘Puppy’s Play’, with the best of Puppy’s Play shown on the big screen this Saturday.
