Game Three, 1985: Turvey kisses the SCG turf as NSW get first ever series win.

This was a long time coming.

Having won just three of 11 previous games against the Maroons, new coach Terry Fearnley and his skipper plotted for months over the off-season to bring an end to Queensland's dominance.

On the back of a decisive 18-2 victory in Game One at Lang Park, a sizeable crowd braved the wet conditions in the hope of being witness to little piece of history, and could scarcely believe their eyes when the Blues found themselves in front 12-0 after just 16 minutes.

Despite losing Bob Lindner and Colin Scott to injury Queensland first clawed their way back into the match and then a  14-12 lead late in the second half.

Not to be denied though, the Blues hit the front through a penalty and then field goal from Michael O'Connor, before a late try to Brett Kenny triggered scenes of jubilation in the stands and on the field, with Mortimer etching himself into Origin folklore as he kissed the turf in relief.
