The Canterbury Bulldogs NYC side will look to secure their first win of the season this Saturday against last year’s Holden Cup winners, the Penrith Panthers.

The Bulldogs were lucky enough to make their second successive Preliminary Final in 2013, after taking the Minor Premiership in 2012. The Dogs were unlucky not to make the final game of the season, going down to New Zealand in a high scoring match. Penrith eventually won the Grand Final, defeating the Warriors 42-30.

The Bulldogs ‘pups’ played a wonderful first 40 minutes last week against Cronulla, leading 20-4 at half time. The started the second half well, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win, the Dogs eventually going down 32-30.

Canterbury centre Michael Morgan, who shares the same name as the Cowboys fullback, scored four tries in a devastating display that saw him cross for a hat trick before the half time siren.

In Round 1 against the Broncos, the Bulldogs struggled in the first half but eventually got it together and really impressed coach Andy Patmore with their fight back in the second 40. Last week it was the other way around, the Dogs were brutal in the first half against Cronulla but couldn’t continue it into the second half.

The Panthers NYC side is also winless this season, losing to Newcastle 34-22 in Round 1 before going down 42-24 last week against Melbourne.

The nephew of Penrith premiership winning forward and current Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright, 19-year old Bryce Cartwright will be the biggest target for the Bulldogs pups.

Penrith will be a difficult task for the Dogs this weekend considering Cartwright was awarded the NYC Player of the Year in 2013 and teammate George Jennings is the younger brother of Roosters superstar Michael Jennings.
