Bulldogs in the Community, with the help of the Starlight Foundation, hosted a very special guest at training last week. Bulldogs supporter Travis who made a wish to come meet the whole team and see where they trained was given the vip treatment and Bulldogs TV was there to catch every moment.
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs were very proud to make a dream come true for a very special supporter. Travis Parkes visited Belmore on Thursday, June 20 as a wish granted by the Starlight Foundation’s Make a Wish program.
Together with parents Noel and Zelma, and brother Kye, Travis made the long trip from Yeoval near Orange to visit the Bulldogs for a rare behind the scenes look at Belmore.
The family arrived in style, rolling up in a pink stretch hummer – Travis’ request. From there they received a guided tour of the state of the art facilities from the change rooms and ice baths, all the way through to the media room. Trainer Saree Boutros and Physical Performance Manager Harry Harris were on hand to give Travis a run-down of the gym program and technology used by the team.
After the tour it was time for Travis to check out training. On the way out to the field, Travis ran into head coach Des Hasler, who imparted some very impressive fashion tips to our guest.
Travis made his way through the tunnel and out to the sideline to watch the team go through their final training session before the big game against the Roosters. High Performance Coordinator Liz Marin explained how the GPS technology is used in training and gave some stats about the fastest players in the team.
After training Travis took to the field and met the team, who were very impressed with his ride. The players gathered round for a photo with a beaming Travis and wished him well.
Captain Mick Ennis presented Travis with a Bulldogs jersey which was then signed by all the players. After a chat with the boys and interviews with Steve Turner, Travis and his family said goodbye and made their way back to the hummer.
Thank you to Travis and the Parkes family for making the trip to see visit the team at Bulldogs HQ, as well as Lawrence Goodstone and Maria Pokorny from the Starlight Foundation for making all of this possible.
