SG Ball: Bulldogs defeat Storm 28-24
Sunday 10 February 2013 2:43 PM
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs SG Ball side have this afternoon started their 2013 campaign off with a 28-24 victory over the Melbourne Storm at Belmore Sports Ground.
The opening try went the Storm’s way but the Bulldogs were able to answer back relatively quickly with the home side able to convert, it put them in front 6-4.
Another try to each side was scored throughout the remainder of the half but with either able to convert it was the blue and whites who went to the break leading 10-8.
The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw the young Bulldogs scoring two converted tries and putting themselves in a commanding position with a 14 point lead, 22-8.
You could have been mistaken in thinking that the Bulldogs thought they were on their way to a comfortable victory but the Storm had other ideas. In the space of five minutes the visitors had answered back with two converted tries of their own to make it a two point ball game, 22-20.
With the Bulldogs trainers making it well known what was expected of them in the final 10 minutes it was then that the pups lifted and mounted enormous pressure on the Storm’s line. With four repeat sets at their line the Bulldogs were able to crash over and extend their lead out to 28-20.
With the Bulldogs looking at victory there was a slight scare with the Storm scoring with just three minutes on the clock to once again make it a two point ball game. The Storm had one more opportunity to go for victory but the blue and whites defence held on with the SG Ball side registering their first win for 2013.
