NRL Preview: Bulldogs v Rabbitohs
Friday 23 August 2013 10:13 AM
This weekend the Bulldogs take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who have been one of the most consistent sides of the competition and for the Dogs side it will be about building on what they did last weekend against the Raiders.
“We want to keep the momentum going and build towards the finals,” said Dene Halatau.
The clash with the Rabbits will be a challenge and a test for the Bulldogs, but no doubt one the side will be looking forward to. As a player you want to be playing on the big stage and against quality opposition, and it doesn’t get any bigger than Friday night.
“These are the games players look forward to…it will be a backs to the wall type scenario, but the players are confident in their own ability,” said Coach Des Hasler.
They are a quality side the Bunnies and for the Dogs it will be about controlling the ruck area to limit the impact Hooker Issac Luke provides. The strength to his game is his dummy half running and a lot of his quality runs come off the back of the likes of Burgess, Inglis and Sutton and if the Dogs can be effective in contact with these players, it will certainly go a long way to get the result they are after.
“It’s an area we will need to be good at, because they are good at exposing this area if you are poor in it,” said Skipper Michael Ennis.
It’s an important time of the year for the Dogs, as it has been an up and down year at times and to give yourself the best shot in September, you need to be playing consistent football and it all starts on Friday night. If they get their own house in order, then the result will take care of itself.
“It’s about getting the consistency in your performance and playing for 80 minutes at this time of the year,” said Ennis.
What a game Friday will be! Two of the biggest clubs in Sydney going head to head at ANZ Stadium in front of a bumper Friday night crowd. It makes for a great contest and one the Bulldog players will be up for.
