Knights Too Strong for Bulldogs in NYC
Sunday 19 May 2013 2:40 PM
The Bulldogs NYC side have this afternoon been defeated by the Knights 50-26 at Hunter Stadium in Newcastle. A hat-trick from Dylan Rintoul wasn’t enough to spark the young pups with the home side proving too strong for the blue and whites.
The young Bulldogs had the ideal start with the first points being registered after just three minutes of play. An error from the Knights on their own 20m line gifted the visitor’s premium field position and they didn’t disappoint. On just the third tackle the ball was shifted to the left through the hands of Jack Creighton, Moses Mbye and Patrick Templeman and then on to Rintoul who then cruised through to score his first try of the afternoon. Templeman converted from out wide to give the Bulldogs an early 6-nil lead.
On the next set it was on again with Rintoul this time using a strong right hand fend to put him into open space and over to score his second of the afternoon. Templeman was unable to convert from the western touchline with the score remaining 10-nil after eight minutes of play.
The Knights answered back with two tries of their own through lock forward Joe
Boyce. The first came in the 19th minute with the second shortly after in the 23rd. Both were converted from in front to give the home side a 12-10 lead mid-way through the first half.
The remainder of the half was all the Knights with the home side crossing for a further two tries and going to the break with a 24-10 lead.
It wasn’t an ideal start to the second half for the Bulldogs either with the Knights starting as they left off in the first half scoring two tries in the opening 10 minutes through Shipard and Honeti Tuha. The second of those was converted by Oakes extending the Knights lead out to 34-10.
Two tries in five minutes to the Bulldogs closed the gap and the fight back was underway. The first was scored by Mbye after a great pick-up by Templeman off a kick saw the pair of them go the length of the field to score. Templeman converted to leave the score at 34-16 after 53 minutes.
The second of the tries came two minutes later through try machine John Sila. The winger used his brute strength to go through the defence and score in the south-east corner. Templeman converted beautifully from the sideline with the score 34-22.
In the 68th minute the Bulldogs closed the gap once more with Rintoul crossing for his third try of the afternoon. A grubber was put through and the centre broke through into space to win the race to the ball. Templeman couldn’t convert on this occasion with the score remaining 34-26.
The final 10 minutes was a period that the young Bulldogs will look to forget with the Knights running in three more tries to hit the half century and register a convincing 50-26 win over the Bulldogs.
