The Bulldogs have two Education Ambassadors in Sam Perrett and Dene Halatau who actively encourage other players to consider their career outside of rugby league through further education. Both players are currently undertaking Building and Construction courses to enable them to work as licenced builders. Pictured with Sam and Dene is Mick Naidofski who is tutoring the players through the formal component of their diplomas.
Sam is a trade qualified carpenter and has his own renovation and development company which keeps him busy after training and weekends, whereas Dene has recently been bitten by the building bug whilst project managing his own property development and is keen to gain further experience in the construction industry.
Both players understand the uncertain nature of the game where injury can cut short business and are determined to get other young players into education, either at university, completing their apprenticeship or starting a course that interests them. In conjunction with the Bulldogs Education and Welfare Manager and the NRL all players will have career plans in place to assist with the transition from rugby league to the real world.
