Football Club Director Anthony Elias Receives Life Membership

Last Sunday, 10 February the Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club held its Annual General Meeting at the Canterbury League Club. On a day where all general business was discussed it was also a day where two club Members were awarded with Life Membership.

There were two Members who received Life Membership, with Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club Director Anthony Elias a very proud recipient. The other was Luke Patten, who we heard from over the weekend.

Elias was a Bulldog from birth and has fond memories of going to matches with his father in the early days. At age 14 Elias had his first ‘official’ position at the Club when club legend Peter Moore got him in to clean his office once a week. On top of this he was given the job of opening up and locking Belmore Sports Ground before and after training.

“They were great days for me,” Elias recalled. “Bullfrog used to smoke those Camel cigarettes and drink scotch and milk so I must admit it wasn’t the nicest smelling office I’ve ever been in.

“I was good mates with Kevin Moore and we were always running around at Belmore, they are great memories.”

Elias played for the club between 1983 and 1988 and Captained the Jersey Flegg side to the 1983 Premiership. After his playing days Elias maintained a heavy involvement in the Club and was appointed to the Football Club Board in 2002, and still holds the position today. He also was a Member of the League Club Board from 2008 through until 2010.

When receiving his Life Membership, Elias admitted it was a very emotional time and he has loved every minute of his involvement with his beloved Bulldogs.

“It is a very proud moment. I love this Club and have enjoyed every experience I have had.

“There have been many ups and downs but that is part of sport and part of the reason we love it so much.

“I got pretty emotional when receiving the Membership because this is for my whole family, they have been as involved as me and it really does mean a lot to me.”
